THE EFFECTS OF EARLY MARRIAGE ON THE SOCIO-ECONOMIC AND EDUCATION DEVELOPMENT OF A CHILD IN EDUCATIONAL DISTRICT

ABSTRACT

This study was conducted to appraise the effect of early marriage on child education and socioeconomic development. The study adopted a survey method of research. Respondents were drawn from Yaba area of Lagos state. A total of 550 respondents were enrolled as study participants. The findings from the study revealed that there is a relationship between early marriage and the socioeconomic development of the child and as such the value of children are drastically limited through the process of early marriage. Educationally, the hypothesis test revealed that there is a significant relationship between early marriage and child’s education. The study recommends the review of laws or customs regarding early marriage.
